A Salute to the Military Spouse

Shop & Savor Suffolk is a half‑day experience designed to celebrate military spouses while strengthening connections between the military community and Suffolk’s vibrant small‑business scene.

Hosted in partnership with the The Workforce Council: HR Veterans Employment Center (HRVEC), this event brings military spouses together for a morning of community conversation, local resources, and a guided shop‑and‑savor tasting trail through Downtown Suffolk. It’s an opportunity to feel welcomed, supported, and inspired — while discovering the places that make Suffolk such a special place to live, work, and shop.

Why This Event Matters

Military spouses often face frequent moves, career interruptions, and the challenge of building community from scratch. Shop & Savor Suffolk was created to ensure that while service members and their families are stationed in Hampton Roads — even for a short time — they are able to experience the warmth, creativity, and support that exist right here in Hampton Roads.

At the same time, this event intentionally drives foot traffic and visibility to local retailers, restaurants, and service providers, strengthening downtown commerce and fostering long‑term relationships between military families and the businesses that serve them.

When our military families feel connected, our local economy thrives — and everyone benefits.

• A guided Shop & Savor trail, pairing downtown boutiques with local restaurants offering small bites

Retail Alliance is currently welcoming interest from Suffolk businesses that would like to participate in one of the following ways:

• Host a vendor table during the event
• Serve as a “shop” stop on the Downtown tasting trail
• Participate as a restaurant “savor” partner providing bites
• Support the event through sponsorship or in‑kind collaboration
